Only used it once to tap a 7/16 x 16 hole, and 4- #8x32 holes in 1/2" mild steel plate. A large tap should not be a problem, small holes, more so. Not with this set. I never felt the tap would break and it produced a sharp thread profile. Go slow and use plenty of cutting oil. This set will last me my lifetime for my johnny homeowner shop. The ratcheting die holder is a nice touch as well as offering two collet type tap holders - much better than the T handle type that always seems to loosen at the wrong time. I would buy this again.

Quality tools, bad case

Nieko tools have always been top notch. These tap and dies are no exception. Used them on steel with no issue and didn’t dull the tooling like with most cheap Chinese taps. The case on the other hand is less than ideal. One of the 2 latches arrived broken on mine, but even the one that “works” barely keeps the case closed. Thankfully I keep it on a shelf, but if someone wanted to tote this around with them they would most likely have taps and dies going all over the place due to the cheap case.
